How to use measuring cups

I lived in New York for 12 years and it was during my time there that I was introduced to the convenience of measuring cups. However depending on how you use them, the volume of a cup can greatly differ. This can affect your recipe and final result. So here’s a few tips on using them correctly.

First thing you need to do is stir your flour. Flour can get compacted after sitting around or from transportation. You need to stir it to loosen it up and aerate it.

Next dip your cup into your flour and scoop up a heaped mound.

Then using a knife, level it by scraping the knife across the top. And there you have as close as you can get to the perfect cup measurement.
