Hot Water Bottle Care and Safety

Three hot water bottles

Our hot water bottles are made to the highest safety standards to provide reliable warmth and comfort. To use them safely and extend their lifespan, please read the instructions carefully and retain the packaging for future reference.

Important – Safety First

  • Hot water bottles can cause burns; avoid prolonged direct contact with the skin
  • Never use boiling water or water directly from domestic hot water systems. Allow boiled water to cool for a few minutes before filling
  • This is not a toy
  • Not suitable for children under 36 months or anyone overly sensitive to heat. Adult supervision is required when in use
  • Never sit on, use as a cushion, or place anything heavy on the bottle
  • Do not microwave your hot water bottle

Filling Your Hot Water Bottle

  • Check the bottle and stopper for damage, cracks, fading, or holes before each use
  • Fill the bottle upright, holding it by the neck, and pour slowly to avoid splashes
  • Fill to a maximum of two-thirds capacity. Do not overfill
  • Expel excess air by lowering the bottle carefully onto a flat surface until water appears at the opening
  • Screw the stopper on firmly (finger-tight is sufficient) to prevent leaks
  • Always use a cover or protective layer between the bottle and your skin

Using Your Hot Water Bottle

  • Avoid prolonged direct skin contact
  • Use only with the provided cover or a suitable alternative to prevent burns
  • Adult supervision is recommended at all times when children are nearby

Hot Water Bottle Markings

  • British Standards Mark (BS 1970:2012): Confirms that the bottle meets European safety requirements
  • Sunflower Mark: Shows the month and year of manufacture, located inside the rim. The dial has 12 segments representing months from January (top right) clockwise to December, with a dot indicating the week within the month. The centre circle shows the year
  • It is recommended that hot water bottles be replaced every two years, as repeated use can cause the rubber to erode

Emptying and Storing Your Hot Water Bottle

  • Stand over a sink and carefully remove the stopper to drain water slowly
  • Ensure the bottle is completely empty before storing, with the stopper removed
  • Store in a cool, dry, dark place, avoiding sunlight and heat sources
  • Keep away from oil, grease, sharp objects, and pressure from heavy items

Cleaning Your Hot Water Bottle

  • Always check instructions for your specific cover
  • Covers can usually be washed inside out at a maximum temperature of 30°C
  • Do not iron, tumble dry, or dry clean the cover

Additional Advice

  • Do not use a hot water bottle if it is over two years old
  • Always inspect the bottle for signs of wear and tear before use
  • Follow all instructions carefully to prevent injury and ensure the longevity of your hot water bottle
